Barnabas did something many leaders struggle to do:
he made room for others. When Paul spent years away preparing quietly, Barnabas went looking for him and brought him into ministry. “Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul.” – Acts 11:25
Barnabas was not insecure about another person’s gifting. He understood that leadership is not about protecting position but helping others grow. Today many people sit silently in churches with gifts, ideas, and calling inside them, but no space is created for them to grow. Everything becomes controlled, scheduled, and centered around a few voices. But the early church functioned differently.
“When you come together, each of you has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation.”
– 1 Corinthians 14:26
God never intended the Church to become a place where only a few participate while everyone else watches. Barnabas reminds us that discipleship means creating room for others, teaching others, and trusting others to grow. Healthy leadership does not fear new voices.
It prepares them.
Reflection:
Are you creating room for others to grow, or protecting your own position?
